Vacation Bible School

VBS is one of the most exciting and impactful parts of our ministry at Sowers of the Kingdom. Held over four to five days at local community spaces, VBS brings Bible stories to life through drama, music, crafts, and games – all led by our mission team and the children themselves.

Each day features a new Bible story acted out by our team alongside the kids, helping them experience God’s Word in a fun and meaningful way. Kids also learn a new memory verse, sing worship songs, create crafts, enjoy snacks, and spend time in outdoor play.

Why focus on children? Research from Barna Group shows that nearly half of all people who accept Jesus do so before the age of 13, and two-thirds make that decision before turning 18. Reaching kids with the Gospel isn’t just important – it’s essential.

VBS is a highlight of our summer and multi-generational mission trips, often taking place when U.S. schools are on break. Families can serve together, making this a powerful opportunity to show your children what it means to live out your faith and serve others. It’s a blessing for both the families who join us and the children we minister to.

Recreational Baseball

Baseball is more than just a game in the Dominican Republic – it’s the national sport and a cherished part of the culture. Nearly 11% of Major League Baseball players are from the DR, making up 40% of all international MLB players. For many Dominican boys, the dream of going pro begins at a young age.

That’s why Sowers of the Kingdom has partnered with Pastor Jesús Carela to bring organized baseball – or béisbol – to the youth of La Granja, an underserved community in Las Terrenas. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, and Gospel-centered environment for boys to learn, grow, and play the game they love.

Pastor Jesús, who serves as lead pastor in La Granja, saw firsthand how many kids in his neighborhood lacked purpose and structure after school. “It was like the Wild West every afternoon,” he recalls. Determined to make a change, he approached a local landowner and secured permission to turn a vacant lot into a makeshift baseball field. Soon, he had a handful of eager boys ready to play.

Pastor Jesús provides the coaching – and more importantly, the Gospel. After practices and games, the boys gather for devotions and prayer. What began with a few kids has grown into a thriving ministry with over 70 boys and two sponsored teams, complete with uniforms and gear.

Together, we're helping these young athletes find discipline, community, and the hope of Christ – one game at a time. Amen!
